Be the Light

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
Matthew 5:14-16 NLT

When my heart is right,
I will project light.
A light that is so bright,
It can be seen day and night.

For the light that you see,
Was freely given to me.
All I had to do,
Was believe the Good News as true.

And with that decree,
That I know He died for me.
I give praise,
Because I know I am saved.

Heaven awaits,
I will live inside its gates.
But first, my purpose and plan,
While on the Earth’s land.

“What are they?” you ask.
What are my assigned tasks?
For years they were to be,
What I thought was best for me.

Slowly I realized,
I was not that wise.
Not lacking intellect,
Yet whom I should allow to direct.

Yes, set the vision and make it plain.
And ask for it in Jesus’ name.
But what I ask, is the key.
Is what I am asking best for me?

There is only one way to know,
And it’s felt in my soul.
When the Holy Spirit in me,
Is allowed to guide totally.

Then, my spirit can rest,
Because I know I’m doing my best.
My light shines brighter,
The burden gets lighter!

My light does not dim,
when some don’t want me to win.
I will not be dismayed,
Due to their shade!

The path my light projects,
He perfectly directs.
Purposefully guiding a way,
On any given day.

Yes, every single day,
He makes a way.
Though sometimes I’m the cause,
For my illumination to pause.

So, I must daily renew,
For my light to shine through!
For my light displays love,
A gift from my Father above.

He gave His only Son,
For victory to be won.
I’m honored to have the duty,
To show the world this beauty.

Each day I have a choice,
To listen to His voice.
Releasing more of me,
To become more empty.

The less of me inside,
The more the Holy Spirit resides.
I then yearn to do what’s right,
And in return, reflect His light!

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.”
John 3:16-21 NLT
